Media: Fabric Painting
Size: 14x11 in
I referenced a work by Egon Schiele for this piece. It is free-motion stitched on cotton, then watercolored, and then a few appliquéd pieces. It is encased in a plexi-glass frame, which measures 11x14 inches. My process: I use a sewing machine to free-motion stitch the subject. I never pre-draw or create any guiding marks on the fabric before sewing. i just look at the reference and manipulate the fabric and thread to create, which results in an expressive interpretation, and never hyperreal. After the stitching is done, i sometimes add watercolors and additional embroidery and/or appliqué work.NOTE: The reflection of the window you see on the work is a reflection of an actual window in my home. It is almost impossible to shoot a work under plexiglass without a reflection.
